I survived another year, and to mark this momentous occasion I was whisked away to Liverpool for the weekend. We stayed in the Ibis Styles hotel on Dale Street. It was a proper funky little place, much like a Tardis. Small from the outside but opens up like a massive maze inside. All the rooms had funky paint jobs and decor, ours being decorated with Strawberry wallpaper. Others had birds and mustaches etc.
It was actually one of the cleanest rooms I have ever stayed in, and despite me having worries about it being noisy due to it being on a main road and playing host to stag and hen parties, it was super quiet. The bed was awesome too, comfortably firm. Bliss. The reception area was clean and tidy, with a little bar that was open 24 hours. They got wind it was birthday and gave us a voucher for a free drink each. When I asked the barman what we could have (thinking it would be limited to the cheapest pint or house wine) we were told we could have anything. Claire had a Kopperberg and I had a bottle of a locally made ale. I’m pretty sure everyone gets a free drink, but I felt special all the same.
Over the course of the weekend we had a mooch about the MASSIVE city centre – How many shops!? We walked around the Albert Dock, went on a London Eye style wheel, looked around a war-time house, The National Museum, the Maritime Museum (which had a Titanic exhibition on) and the Central Library, got lost a thousand times and went out to sample the nightlife. We ended up in Concert Square, and it was BUSY!
We loved looking at all the old buildings, but the city is covered in litter, which is a shame. Maybe the council were on holiday or something 😉
We had a great time though, it was well worth a visit. Big thanks to my good lady for sorting it.
